Lalli, to Mercedes, is a bit like a wild animal. One that's slowly getting used to coming up to people to be fed but still very much ready to bolt or show his teeth if he's made to feel uncomfortable so the best thing is to hold still and let him handle things at his own pace. He comes off as kind of abrasive and blunt, but she's used to that with people like Cyril and Felix and she possesses patience in spades. He's already proven that he's capable of (mostly) fending for himself and so she's resolved to just... kind of help out when he needs it. Healing, or feeding him, and the like.

But he also seems to be by himself constantly, so she can't just leave him alone. She wants to care for him, and he's yet to drive her away (nor can he tbh she's Stubborn) and now that she knows he appreciates her kindness, Mercedes is all the more determined to become better friends with him and help him feel as comfortable as possible.
