SKELETON SLAYING FRIEND!!

Lightning is someone that Dimitri deeply trusts. Even before he knew of her military background, he had a fair idea of the kind of person she was — no-nonsense, a good head on her shoulders, realistic, and a skilled fighter. He respects both her opinion and abilities, and even though he thinks she gives the gods a scant amount of leeway, he doesn’t view this as a bad thing. It gives him another perspective in which he can weigh his own against, something Dimitri finds invaluable.

He’s reached a comfortability with her that not very many others have achieved yet — for instance, he was fine with taking his mask off at the ball while in her presence, and with nearly anyone else, he would not have been quite as comfortable doing that. He considers her someone he’s willing to open up to, even if that means showing and/or telling some of the more unflattering parts of his personality.

Dimitri will come to her aid if she ever asked for it (and if she’s in trouble, he’ll do it even if she doesn’t); he never hesitates to take up his lance for a friend, and Lightning has definitely found a spot in that circle.
