Test Drive #4

Welcome to the January test drive! We're so excited to have you with us!

A few things of note:
Test drive threads can be considered game-canon if you choose. They're essentially in a shared dreamscape and take place between your character leaving their world and arriving in the audience hall with their faction leader.
Reserves will open at 12:01 AM UTC on February 1st, and continue to be until 11:59 PM UTC on February 7th. This is to reserve a character, not an application slot.
Applications will open at 12:01 AM UTC on the 8th, and remain open until 11:59 PM UTC on the 15th, or until all application slots have been filled. Once Activity Check ends, we will have an application slot number available on the application page. The IC & OOC intro logs will be posted two days later.
We have added a Suitability section to the application. Check it out! We will be requiring this going forward as it not only helps players see if their character is a good fit for the game but it lets the mod team gather some ideas about direction for your character!
Questions? We have a FAQ that's chock full of good information! If they are test drive specific, we have a top level thread below that allows for OOC questions to be posted.
✦ The network is available to use! No matter where your character is, their compass arrived on their person. Please feel free to include a network post in your top-levels! Once opened, the compass will display instructions on use, such as using voice-commands to activate it. Usernames are your characters first name or their most common nickname.
✦ Below will be a header for OOC questions as well as a request for Death or its Attendants if you risk placing a coin in their offering bowl.
As in December, a secondary blessing will be available in February to those that tag others on the TDM!
All set? Perfect! Welcome to Fellden.

AS THE MOON RISES.
You’ll find yourself just outside the Temple gates, which will be locked if you try to open them. A little rude, keeping you out after bringing you all this way, and the more you try to look up at the Temple structure the more insistent guards become in pushing you down the pathway to somewhere else. The thing is, you can hear a lot of commotion in the distance, and smoke rising from the center of a district; you may want to check that out. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire!

Except the smoke is not at all something to be concerned over. Instead, people are gathered near a large bonfire in the decorated city square, drinking and carousing, singing songs of celebration; Moon saviors have arrived! War winners! The residents of the city laugh and sing and dance in pairs throughout the square, grateful for those who have come to aid them. Their merriment doesn’t dwindle as the sun begins to set on the horizon, twin moons rising in its place.

When you (and other new arrivals) are finally noticed by the revelers, do not expect to be left alone! Chrysanthemums will be offered as brooches or corsages, food and drink placed into your hands, while live musicians play loud enough for the dead to hear — for this is a celebration dedicated to them. Several were lost in the battle held the previous weeks, and the Priestess has decreed a time of mourning through revelry. Spirits must be kept up, even in these dark times. You’ll be invited to dance, to drinking games, and offered food and flowers and other items of value. Some may cry when they look into your face, thanking you for becoming their champions during this long and exhaustive war.

Hopefully you’re here to enjoy the festivities despite the pall that may hang over the town. Sneaking off is just fine, too, but don’t expect to be let go of quietly; the people of the Moon Temple are so happy to see you! Enjoy the celebration while it lasts long into the night. If you do manage to leave, a helpful citizen of the Temple will inform you of the nearby transport mirrors that will take you anywhere on the map, one of which they will provide to you.

THE SETTING STARS.
You'll find upon your arrival that the castle is not accepting visitors as they prepare the interior for a solemn remembrance of those lost. Guards at the door will instead direct you to the center of the city where most of Starfolk have gathered to say their goodbyes and reminisce of memories past.

Venturing there, you'll be greeted either by those who are serving food and drink from nearby taverns, or those with drawn faces tired from battle. Or perhaps you're a late arrival and the worst of the exhaustion has left the city, now imbued with laughter and happier memories! Those loyal to the Court of Stars greet the newcomers with guarded gratitude in their eyes and wary hesitance. How many more of these Otherworlders will betray them, they wonder out loud. If you try and take a seat with a party or three, chances are the conversation will halt as soon as you grow near, and the longer you stay the more uncomfortable the gathered people become.

Trust is not easily gained in the Court of Stars; broken now as it is, the natives of this world fear the worst for their Emperor. Will you help us, or will you hurt us, they ask, wanting to believe they still have a chance at surviving this exhaustive war.

Whether you choose to remain for the remembrance or wander off, one thing is certain: things must turn around for the Stars soon. If you do manage to sneak off, a hopeful citizen of the Court will inform you of the nearby transport mirrors that will take you anywhere on the map, one of which they will provide to you.

MARKETS OF THE COAST.
The coastal city of Kyst is abuzz with an extra amount of people who sought refuge here during the attack on the Moon Temple. Some calm had finally started to settle but now the foundation has once more been shaken. Newcomers will be welcomed with smiling faces from merchants as they look to try to sell their wares. Tavern owners and barkeeps will beckon with the promise of warm food and delightful drinks, a place by the fire, and information to help you find your bearings. The air is rife with the scent of the coastline, fishermen bringing in their haul from the day. Perhaps if you pay enough attention, you'll hear or smell something you recognize from your home; as Fellden is the beginning of all worlds, it wouldn't be an impossible likelihood!

Those looking for something more exciting will find closer to the northern border of Kyst a rather curious bi-pedal cat bouncing on its back legs. It flags you down with a wave of its paw, asking excitedly if you'd like to flex your claws into a juicy quest. You're just the hunter for the job! Purr-fect in every way! Out in the wild lands there's a great beast in a deep river, and it's bothering all the people who live in the nearby town! They can't get fresh water or fish for their meals; it's furr-ightening! If you agree to help, the cat will explain that the creature is a Nokken that has been luring many a brave fisher to their untimely death. It must be removed either by force or by convincing it to leave! Help them, Hero-wan Kenobi, you're their meownly hope!

BEYOND THE CITIES.
In the distance from Kyst, a large forest looms, the Gods Wood imposing even from this distance. Should you travel there, everyone you encounter will urge you to be respectful while within the forest. There, people can be found visiting intricately decorated shrines, and leaving offerings for their passed. If you catch their eye, they will beg of you to pay respects as well, and press a gold coin into your palm. Offer a wish or a happy memory to who you miss and place the coin into Death's offering bowl and there's a chance someone will be there to speak with you. Be mindful of your actions though; those that show disrespect will be forcibly removed from the Gods Wood by the trees.

If the forest is too intimidating, Terebellum is open for semester registration, and the grounds are even more regal with a light dusting of snow all around. Students of all branches of magic can be found exploring the campus and practicing their craft. If you're lucky, perhaps you can find a teacher who will explain what is offered here at the University. But ah, there's a catch! Tuition is extremely expensive, so you must impress your faction leaders if you wish to widen your breadth of knowledge within these walls!

Well, uh. I never... considered humans more than the same way I think about dirt? So I... kind of ruined earth a bunch. And I didn't really think about how precious organic life is until a few years ago. I destroyed a lot of it, until someone fought for it, who thought Earth was more than just another planet to conquer?

[Wow! Explaining this is hard!]

[personal profile] lallipop 2020-02-14 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Hard and... not very sympathetic, to a human, oops! Lalli fully rears back in disgust.]

That's all your problem! You shouldn't have done any of that in the first place!
mirrortide: (104)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2020-02-14 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, hey. It was what I was made for. Terraforming is what a Lapis does. It was to expand Homeworld. Besides, do you think about the... [Hang on, give Lapis a second to make a comparison here- the ants you probably step on? That's kind of what it was like for us. Besides, back when I was first on Earth, humans were making houses out of mud still!

[She puts her hands on her hips.] Besides, I don't do that anymore. I like Earth, and I like the organic life there.
lallipop: (pic#13514207)

[personal profile] lallipop 2020-02-14 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I don't step on ants.

[He's pretty sure. He's very watchful and light-footed, and also it sounds good to say right now.]

It doesn't change anything. Fighting shouldn't happen, and it's your fault it did.
mirrortide: (084)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2020-02-14 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hey. Why is it my fault?

[Wow. She's a little bit miffed? She's thought she's done so much better, and here THIS MOTHERFUCKER is, stepping all over that.]
lallipop: (pic#13514199)

[personal profile] lallipop 2020-02-14 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
You just said you attacked the earth!

[What is this conversation.]
mirrortide: (104)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2020-02-14 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but it wasn't like that! [She's frustrated.] We're Gems. To make new Gems, we have to colonize other planets! We didn't think of it as inhabited by sentient life when we started colonizing it! Because we didn't think of humans as sentient life!
lallipop: (pic#13514217)

[personal profile] lallipop 2020-02-14 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[This is absolutely not helping, and Lalli doesn't want to be in this conversation anymore.

So he turns on his heel. Everything this Lapis is saying just convinces him she isn't worth his breath.]

Whatever.

What's a...

[ sorry, give her a sec, her brain has busted over that question. ]

It's an animal you ride on? Do you not have horses where you come from?
merging: (09.)

[personal profile] merging 2020-02-14 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of 'em, but. There are a lot of animals you can ride on.

[Like purrgil for example.]

Is it like a Loth-wolf?
pegafuss: (11)

[personal profile] pegafuss 2020-02-14 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what a loth-wolf is, but if it's anything like a normal wolf? No.

[ she crosses her arms, brow furrowing, because this is explaining the most basic of concepts to someone who is old enough to know better. ]

It's a mount. Four-legged, hooved feet, has a mane. You have never really seen one?
merging: (05.)

[personal profile] merging 2020-02-14 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I can think of, unless we're using different words for the same thing. It kinda sounds similar to a bantha or a nerf? Do you milk horses too?

[Normal wolf is a weird way of putting it, though. Loth-wolves are normal wolves!]

But wolves on my planet are four-legged and you can use them as mounts.

You just steal people's names?? For fun??

I'm not sure. About fighting.....I'm...I guess more a diplomat. I do have responsibility back home. And of course I would fight, to keep Arendelle safe. To keep them, all of them, to keep Anna safe.

[But, well. If there were options besides outright fighting. That would probably be more to Elsa's stead. More in her comfort zone. If possible. She's only just arrived and figuring all this out after all, yet. To be sure what exactly the options were.]

[The smart thing to do now would be to straight up attack Orchid, or make a run for it while she's down, or maybe even try to tie her up. Worked up as she is though, Zero's in no mind to do the smart thing (not that she ever does). Instead, she grabs the wires and starts pulling while spinning around, trying to swing Orchid in a circle like she's about to send her flying off.

Hopefully Orchid doesn't get motion sick or dizzy from it.......]
attorn: (Liberty on Ryloth)

[personal profile] attorn 2020-02-14 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
You....what?

[Hondo? She's pretty sure she doesn't remember Hondo looking like this. At all. Then again, Ezra might not be aware that he is not the only one familiar with Hondo for that matter. Though at least his run ins with the guy went reasonably better than her own.

Ahsoka raises an eyebrow, before she frowns at the name given, and his attempted explanation. There's a tilt of her head as she crosses her arms.]

You're not Hondo.

[Nice try though, Ezra.]
merging: (09.)

[personal profile] merging 2020-02-14 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
not for fun!!! just sometimes it's dangerous to use my name
merging: (10.)

[personal profile] merging 2020-02-14 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Here comes Ezra's best approximation of Hondo's voice because he's not giving up yet!]

Oh Ahsoka my girl! You are bright, but even you have been fooled by Hondo, I see! Ah, but do not be worried, it is only a shadow hologram!

[Okay, this is ridiculous. He's giving up.]

I'm from the future. We haven't met yet.
attorn: (Kidnapped)

[personal profile] attorn 2020-02-14 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What? How would that even work? I've already met Hondo.

[So if he were from her future, they would have easily already met. So she does not get how this is supposed to work. How she is supposed to believe this. Which of course means she frowns, reaching out a hand to his shoulder. If he is a hologram of some sort, he wouldn't be solid enough to actually touch.]
merging: (09.)

[personal profile] merging 2020-02-14 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
No! I mean- I'm not Hondo. Obviously.

[He sighs]

Look, my name's Ezra. My real name. And I do know you, we just haven't met in your time. Pretty sure I haven't even been born yet. It's weird Force stuff, okay?
attorn: (Altar of Mortis)

[personal profile] attorn 2020-02-15 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
You -- that's just. Confusing.

[Because. How? Ezra, sure. The time nonsense is more confusing. And she still isn't sure why he was lying about being Hondo. Maybe because he wasn't sure how to react to meeting her when she's apparently supposed to be older with meeting him back home? Presumably the reason this was kind of weird. All around. For both of them but possibly moreso for him?]

But, Ezra, huh?
merging: (11.)

[personal profile] merging 2020-02-15 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Ezra Bridger.

[And one day we'll be fighting off Palpatine in a world between worlds! What is he supposed to say?]

Um, my master was... Caleb Dume. I don't know if you've met him yet. He was the padawan of Depa Billaba. Oh, and I'm a Jedi, by the way. In case you didn't... know.
attorn: (Missing in Action)

[personal profile] attorn 2020-02-17 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
You too? My Master is Anakin. Or, Skyguy, as I sometimes call him. But....past tense? Did something happen to your Master?

[Killed in the war? Probably? A lot of Jedi lost their lives with the fighting. Even before Order 66 happened, which she doesn't know of that yet. So of course she has no idea Ezra is Well Aware of just who her Master is. And what happened there in the end.]

( there's a small shake of his head— ) I can't say for sure, however... there have been similar stories from others here.

( about how the timing doesn't match up. people remembering different courses of events...
we were working together.
what a loaded statement that may be. for now, it would be best if he kept his cool, probably. kept the glaring details of the would-be bullet-to-the-head to himself... )

I was worried my disappearance might have caused some worry, but.

( it isn't NOT the truth. hearing that akechi's account of events was business-as-usual back home, then those concerns could be laid to rest, at least.
instead of adding anything to more that, and risk lying, ren simply shakes his head. )

A paradox might be the best, and most unbelievable, scenario.

( in a lot of ways... )
masqueraid: (Default)

[personal profile] masqueraid 2020-02-17 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
( there's a blank stare. ren can't be sure if they're riding the same wavelength or passing like two ships in the night, but one thing's for sure... )

Mama mia...

( he never won't appreciate breaking the ice with a well-timed inappropriate comment when the situation calls for it.
the next bit has him chuckling quietly though, and not even at his own joke! to see louis jumping from one conclusion to another is... almost kind of endearing? poor guy, let this protag-kun help you out... )

Actually I did mean plant food, but— ( there's a little charm +2 in this grin he's tossing your way, louis. ) If you're asking me to lunch in exchange for tips, I won't refuse.
